A very useful thing being able to add an illustration to your blog. I chose the image because I am interested in embroidery and feel there is a worldwide interest in it. The site seems easy to use and the number of results are startling, so many images. Customers should be able to use the site, many of them are very computer saavy. Manukau libraries could use images to illustrate their blog and these can be used without worrying about copyright or payments. I will use the site again and would promote it to borrowers.

Feeling very positive about round 2, much later, feeling very frustrated. I find it easier to work at home because there is a computer available when I have time to work, it is quiet and there are no interruptions. The glitch is, it is a dial up connection and it is very obvious from the first and second exercises that broadband is needed.
Will have another attempt at work.

Summary - brief because I tend to waffle on!!
Lots of learning, discovery, bad language, temper fits and despair about my ability with technology.
Good things, Zamzar - very useful tool.
Twitter interesting discovering how it works, good for me doesn't let you ramble on.
Good reads, useful as an advisory tool used with new books lists and book reviews.
Music sites, handy to know about for borrowers looking for music. I do use a music site to look for particular recordings and pieces.
Bad things for me Facebook just not interested.
Overall very pleased I have finished because I didn't last time and I don't like feeling defeated and my PDRs have WEB2 as an objective - achieved, goody!!!!!!!!!!

Re read the instructions about Facebook and have done what was asked for. I am not an intuitive user of things and I had difficulty navigating my way about the site and discovering where to add things and find things, feel sure it would become easy with constant use.
I do not feel Facebook can do anything for me and I will not continue to use it, if anything I find it alarming that so much information is available about people when there is such a fuss about privacy laws, however I recognise Facebook has a huge following and so the library should have a Facebook page. The library information is then freely available for anyone that wants it without having to look for it seperately. Customers do ask about Facebook on a regular basis and many of them check their pages regularly using the Learnnet and I would suggest to them they look at the libraries Facebook for information about events, competitions, new books etc, many of the borrowers for whom English is not a first language would perhaps feel happier looking at Facebook than the Libraries website because they are often familiar with Facebook but not the website, they struggle with the website in the same way I struggle with Facebook.

Facebook has been a laborious effort. I approached it with a negative feeling and consequently everything possible went wrong with creating a login and password. I do not wish to have a profile on facebook for a variety of reasons-" old friends" is enough, so I created an imaginary person which made a load of work as they needed an email address and gmail was very fussy about user names and passwords. I got very cross with the whole exercise and was all set to abandon the whole damn thing but I was determined to finish this time. Tonight it is completed and Minnie Felis now has her own Facebook, her photo shows her doing what she likes best and eating comes a close second. I could now help a borrower if they asked about Facebook - reluctantly - what happened to the "customer experience" theory!!!! it was killed by Facebook.

Music - a vast area - have fallen behind with my work plan because music needs a computer at work, my hours have been short and busy and the learn net is always in use. Today I worked all day and found the time to look at mp3 sites.
I have used the Amazon MP3 store before looking for a particular recording so for this used FreeAlbums.blogsome.com. because it didn't need a login and password created. I used the Album directory and the search function and found the work and composer I was looking for. The site offers a wide variety of genre which suited my search, classical music can be hard to find. I found the blogs interesting and the lists of further sites to look at immense, hope to spend some time looking at these, will try at home.

Goodreads, like this, easy to join and to use. A marvellous tool to use with the borrowers who want to know what to read next, who writes like........ etc. there are endless possibilities. The older borrowers could be resistant to the computer but once they were able to use it I feel they would enjoy it. I would use it in tandem with the libraries own lists that appear on our website, most borrowers are comfortable with the library website when they are shown how to use it and access things.

Twitter achieved, not something I would use, not enough time in life to be spending it sending little messages and it presumes one has easy access to a computer at any time. I think the telephone would win for me or a text message. The library use of it is good for quick comments and messages that don't need an instant response, keeps customers in the loop.

An exasperating time locating Zamzar expected a link from the exercise. Google provided the answer and from there it was all good. This is a very, very useful thing to know about and the answer to problems that happen with users of the learnnet. It may be that customers would need to create an email - gmail is ideal for this. The only glitch could be the answer is not immediate and sometimes people do not have time to wait. I am sure I will use this site again and will promote it.

Amazing, have managed to reactivate previous account , must have learnt something.
So web2 again, with some alterations. The time frame is much tighter this time so there is pressure to finish and I plan to work on it at work as my dial up connection at home defeated me last time, too slow for video clips and other tricky things. Will set out with positive thoughts and try not to be beaten, technology can defeat me very easily.
Uses for Blogs in the library world: ideal for promoting discussion about almost anything, helps to know what customers are thinking, informs customers of events, competitions anything to do with the library and its services. Good for feedback, good service, bad service, problems with things, overdues, long waits for requests, too noisy, not enough computers, gives the borrowers a sense of being heard.

Blogging has fallen by the wayside for nearly two months, no time, no computer, and no inclination! however completion is needed and a magic date is in my PDR document.
This week is about wikis. I enjoyed reading the examples given and feel there is a place for wikis but am slightly doubtful about the content of some, they seem very authorative but are really only one person's opinion - plenty of scope for bias and mis - information.

Have done some further work on the flickr site and discovered the site I am interested in has an RSS feed so have added it to my bloglines account, it is a roundabout way of accessing the images but it works.

Flickr is the challenge this time. I have spent ages looking at photos, how to tag things etc and searched for various forms of embroidery, the results are fascinating, time consuming and envy making, there are some very talented people about.

Major victory, the Rollyo link is now on the page. This afternoon I made an appointment with Charlotte for next Thursday, to get some help with this blog. I think passing the thinking to some one else has made my mind work and find the solutions to my major problem, how to get a working link on the blog. I will keep my time with Charlotte and use it to gather some helpful tips and ideas.

I have had two attempts at week 3. The first effort which took about two hours was a disaster and my temper was very frayed - FUN - it was not, not even slightly, who wants to generate an image? decided this was definitely for people with lots of time to spare, an office and computer of their own and nothing to do!

My second try has been much more productive and the areas I explored LibraryThing and Rollyo are - FUN - apologies Kelly!

Getting into this blog has proved a major work, my gmail had a hissy fit and it has taken ages to access the account, emails to google, emails to my alternative email however finally, victory!

The establishing a bloglines account and adding feeds was simple in comparison but somewhere I have missed a vital direction and my bloglines access is not on this blog - so far. It is too late at night to read the directions yet again. tomorrow will have to do.

An interesting exercise to create this, following directions over multiple screens is not one of my strengths.
My grateful thanks to those who said be sure to write all your usernames and passwords down, could have been total chaos without that advice.
Have re read the directions and discover I need to write fifty words for this post, knew multiple screens were my problem, my skills will need to improve over the next few weeks!!
